Musician and song writer in Seattle, Washington.
For as long as I can remember, music has been a passion of mine. While playing for a live audience is great fun (most of the time), I've always had a special interest in recording -- both the technology and the process itself. These days I don't play gigs any more, but I enjoy writing and recording music for others to hear online. Hopefully, you'll find something you like here. Story behind the song
I recorded an earlier version of this song on 4-track cassette with my friends Craig Hansen and Steve Schultz. For this new arrangement, I was able to rescue the original solo guitar part Craig played on the first recording. The rest is new.
Lyrics
I was young once and restless, wore my pride like a gun You were young then and fearless, bore my love like a stone The world was mine for the taking, had it all my own way Your heart was mine for the breaking, but I gave it away Once a friend, once a dreamer Once a madman, twice a fool Swore I'd always be a gambler But I never dreamed I'd still be missing you Sometimes it's trees in the moonlight or some Dylan on the radio Takes me back to that night time, a lifetime ago I told you then I was leaving, made believe I had plans Listened to your quiet breathing, you held my face in your hands Once a friend, once a dreamer Once a madman, twice a fool Swore I'd always be a gambler But I never dreamed I'd still be missing you Standing here by my window, staring out at the night No one there but the shadows running hard from the light It takes a long time to discover all your bridges have been crossed Ain't no way to recover love you've gambled and lost
