Story behind the song
This is from the forthcoming CD based around Virtual Reality concept. Seems that lies are the original virtual reality (alternative facts, as it were... geesh!). The lyrics sprout from that idea - lies on social media, in the news, from our leaders, it goes on and on.

"What is fact and what is fiction?", Said the Phantom to the LostSoulCastaway, "You can make use of the system And #whatisnews A sea of doubt is there for you to use", Then he leaned against an imaginary wall He took a breath and cut me to the quick, saying, "You can hope they let you finish And await your fifteen minutes But fate is in your hands, instead of leaving it to chance, why not Tell a lie Make it vaguely detrimental Keep them lost inside Play it close to the vest Their belief is fundamental, but tell a lie". His words rang false with their insanity Inhumanity, his vanity And even now I could not turn away I wondered what he meant with this message that he sent But it seemed as though he'd finished with his chosen task With a whisper and a wink before he left He leaned in closer to me As if he was looking through me His body shook, trembled and vanished as he said, "Tell a lie, make it vaguely detrimental Keep them lost inside Play it close to the vest Belief is fundamental, but tell a lie". And once again I wondered what it was That made me pause And had I lost? But even now I can not look away Was there a method to his madness, for much to my surprise A darkness had hollowed out my eyes And I marveled at the sound coming from my mouth It fairly oozed a character obscene Something made me nervous As I sunk below the surface With a solitary purpose, I was almost screaming, TELL A LIE...

A great Prog Rocker, with great lyrics. The idea of not being able to tell what it is really the truth, is very recognizable! Top notch production and awesome songwriting! Love the way you have all these pieces and still manage to put them together, in a perfect flow.

Superb production values guys, dare I say a 70s feel to it. You can tell a lot of work has gone into this masterful track. The subject matter is so true too in these days, unfortunately. Top draw from me.
