They're bull nuts in disguise.
Vermont singer/songwriter; transplanted from the plains of Colorado over forty-five years ago.
Singer/songwriter living in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom with strong connections to the plains of Colorado, my childhood home.
Story behind the song
I grew up on the plains of Colorado eating Rocky Mountain Oysters served "in cheap baskets, full of fries." A Rocky Mountain Oyster feed is an event not to be missed; and yes, I have "pigged out at an oyster feed" and suffered the consequences! I even formed an intermural basketball team in college called the "RMO-Fryin' Nuts...;" clearly, I'm a life-long fan. Enjoy my song and the delicacy, Rocky Mountain Oysters. [Dedicated to my dad, Dean Lakey, a living testy-ment to a healthy diet of Carlo Rossi and Lucy's Rocky Mountain Oysters.]

Verse 1
[C]Way out in cattle country; where the prairie meets the [G7]sky
They serve Rocky Mountain Oysters in cheap baskets, full of [C]fries
You don't bring 'em out on the half shell; they're pounded and deep-[F]fried
No matter how you [C]prep 'em
They're still [G7]bull nuts in [C]disguise
Chorus
Give me those [C]Rocky Mountain Oysters
Gift of the grassy [G7]sea
Give me Rocky Mountain Oysters
That Wild West [C]specialty
Verse 2
[C]Up and down the western prairie from Canada to [G7]Mexico
They feature prairie oysters and huevos del [C]toro
You can ask for Texas Calf Fries or Montana tender-[F]groin
No matter what you [C]call 'em
You'll get some [G7]Swingin' Sir-a-[C]loin
Chorus
Give me those [C]Rocky Mountain Oysters
Gift of the grassy [G7]sea
Give me Rocky Mountain Oysters
That Wild West [C]specialty
Instrumental Break (drum sticks/cowbell)
Verse 3
Like your [C]fancy pants shrimp cocktail, you can dunk 'em in cocktail [G7]sauce
Some folks claim they're a sure-fire cure for that manly virility [C]loss
These tasty, testes nuggets were once full of precious [F]pearl
Once they figure out the "jewel" I'm [C]singing about
I've seen a [G7]few of them greenhorns [C]hurl
Chorus
Give me those [C]Rocky Mountain Oysters
Gift of the grassy [G7]sea
Give me Rocky Mountain Oysters
That Wild West [C]specialty
Verse 4
There's your [C]Oysters Rockefeller in them snooty bars back[G7] East
Well our Oysters Rocky Mountain are a western barroom [C]feast
Wash 'em down with Colorado Kool-Aid, or a cola if you're so [F]inclined
Heck, break out the Carlo [C]Rossi
If you're [G7]tastes are that [C]refined
Chorus
Give me those [C]Rocky Mountain Oysters
Gift of the grassy [G7]sea
Give me Rocky Mountain Oysters
That Wild West [C]specialty
Verse 5
Folks [C]say they taste like chicken, or frog legs or rattle[G7]snake
If you pig out at an oyster feed, it's a guaranteed belly[C]ache
You've got to treat 'em like a delicacy; they're cowboy [F]caviar
The whole subject's kinda [C]delicate
As are all [G7things tes-tic-u-[C]lar!
Chorus (Slowly...build speed)
Give me those [C]Rocky Mountain Oysters
Gift of the grassy [G7]sea
Give me Rocky Mountain Oysters
That Wild West [C]specialty
Chorus
Give me those [C]Rocky Mountain Oysters
Gift of the grassy [F]sea
Give me Rocky Mountain [C]Oysters
That [G7]Wild West [C]specialty[F][C]
Rocky Mountain Oysters...that's what we called hog nuts, when we "cut" hogs on the farm in Illinois....I spent 6 years on the western slope of Colorado while living in Ft Collins in the 50's...Like your style makes me a fan.
