It’s an average day by all accounts in Austin, Texas where two men pick up The Austin Chronicle and peruse the musician referral ads. Todd Kegley , guitar and vocals, is united with Jeremy Reynolds, drums, and a third man who will go down in history as “bassist experiment number one”. Minutes to Burn is conceived. Through their mingled interests and influence, they combine to form an indie force to be reckoned with. Though the line up, as previously eluded to, was destined to change the band took it all in stride. After bassist experiment number one, they worked with a second bassist. It’s a good thing he was trial-sized too, because the third time was the charm. Jeff Williamson lands the coveted position as bassist vocalist completing the dynamic trio. The three have been playing together for two years, and their musical compatibility is evidenced on such brilliant tracks as “message”, my personal favorite, “static”, “poison everything”, “fictional”, and many more. They are currently unsigned, but plan to produce and release their first full length LP very soon. Minutes to Burn was selected by the 2004 Austin punk rock compilation for inclusion in it’s multimedia portion. The band also held the .2 position on the indie charts at soundclick.com for, “message” and “static”. Since we all feel the need to compare bands, I guess it’s a means of sifting for career listeners, I’ll throw out a few names, you can file Minutes to Burn with, Modest Mouse, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Cursive, while other comparisons have been made I feel these three are the most easily heard under and through the music. Check out all their message boards and you’ll soon learn they are committed rockers who break only to showcase their nerdesque hip hop humor, but I got the memo, so here it goes for the rest of you.., eh eh ehhmmm, nerd is the new cool, white is the new black, up is the new down.
